MPG MVP

Check out this interesting story in Mother Jones (which I found via the Readymade blog.)

Wayne Gerdes is the Most Fuel-Efficient Driver in the World. He gets 59 MPG in a (non-hybrid) Honda Accord.

How? Along with other techniques, he tailgates semis; takes 25 mph turns at 50 mph; never uses air conditioning; and starts his car by pushing it down his sloping driveway.

Fuel economy is not just that. It's an obsession. So it's not necessarily a story about environmental awareness, but we can easily glean eco-minded driving logic from it.

I'm a posterchild for the dangers of tailgating much larger vehicles. Not a good idea! Of course, I wasn't doing it to draft....
