porn happens

This is what happens when I return to Ohio: National Porn Sunday.

An e-mail about it awaited me in my work inbox. I figured it was spam, but no; it was from The Chapel in Akron, announcing its participation in Porn Sunday. (FYI, The Chapel is one of those evangelical "non-denominational" mega-churches.)

While the program intends to start conversations about the issues surrounding pornography and to expunge it, the copy about it almost seems like it allies with porn.

XXXchurch.com, the #1 Christian porn website, has put together an explosive program for churches to address pornography.
The #1 Christian porn web site?! This conjures images of wholesome couples (wedding rings fully visible) fornicating missionary-style, not the anti-porn site it is.

Perhaps that's covered in the "feature-length documentary 'Missionary Positions'" that will be shown on National Porn Sunday.

That the churches are not eschewing the word porn but embracing it in their attempts to combat it amuses me. I'm guessing they hope to generate interest by using the word and having a web site so if someone is web surfing for porn and stumbles upon it, he/she might be "saved." Still, I stumble upon it and only find humor in churches' holding porn Sundays. (Oh, all the jokes! Communion stewards pass out Playboy pin-ups when you take the body of Christ! Orgy in the choir loft!)

Plus the porn sunday site has a cool '70s porn vibe design going on. And I hate to say I dig on the design of a right-wing web site.
